Introduction:
As you all know that the people especially the students were protesting in Bangladesh against the quota system. The government was showing failure against the protests and the protests were gaining popularity and quantity among the people. The protest was started about 10 days ago and it gained popularity day-by-day.
Army chief’s statement:
The Army Chief of the Bangladesh, Waker-Uz-Zaman, said in a statement on Monday that an interim government will takeover with immediate effect and asked citizens to keep their trust in the army of Bangladesh.
His statement is as under :
“I request you all to be a little patient, give us some time and together we will be able to solve all the problems”
Zaman also said: “Please don’t go back to the path of violence, and please return to nonviolent and peaceful ways”.
Shiekh Hasina’s response :
After these all situations, The Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina resigned. At least 280 people were killed and thousands injured as the government cracked down on the demonstrations. Hasina reportedly fled the countery on Monday in a military helicopter to India.
Video reporters by local news media, showed thousands of people protesting and surrounding the Prime Minister’s residence.
They were also chanting and singing in celebration as they achieved their aim.
What happened on Sunday ?
On Monday, more than 90 people were killed alone with clashes between security officials and the demonstrators. The protesters were calling Hasina to step down.
In the Capital, Dhaka Shahbagh square, Police fired rubber bullets and tear gas on a huge crowd on the protesters.
On the other hand in the northwestern district of Sirajganj, the demonstrators attacked the police station and killed at least 13 officers.
Sunday saw the highest death toll in one day after the protest was started. The authorities imposed a “shoot-on-sight” curfew from 6pm and the Military and police were following the orders but the protesters still did their protest. Thousands of people marched largely unrestrained early on Monday.
