Six killed in Bangladesh protests

17_July_2024 Wednesday: Bangladesh government has announced that schools and universities will be off for two days after six people killed in protests.

Reason behind the protest:

Since the government of Bangladesh has announced the quota system for jobs.

Quota system: It is a government-imposed trade restriction that limits the number or monetary value of goods that a country can import or export during a particular period. It also restricts the constitutional rights. The quota system can result in reduced product variety, lower quality, and higher prices for consumers.

The reason behind the protests in Bangladesh is the job quota system. The students are very aggresive in Bangladesh and asking for their rights.

Any institute, school or university is ordered to remain shut all over the country. Ministry of Bangladesh spokesman MA Khair said that the shutdown order was issued for the safety of students. But unfortunately six students were killed during the protest.

Three people died in the Chitagong, having the signs of bullets on their body. The director of Chitagong medical college and hospital, Mohammad Tasleem Uddin said that 35 more people were injured and admitted to the hospital.

Two people were killed in capital, Dhaka. Where rivals were throwing bricks on each other. Also one student killed in Rangpur.

The students have demanded an end to a quota system that reserves more than half of civil service posts for specific groups, including children of veterans from the country’s 1971 war of independence against Pakistan.
